E.l.f. Studio Makeup Mist & Set

I bought the E.l.f. Studio Makeup Mist & Set and tried it. Read on to find my review!

I have been looking for a dupe of MAC’s Fix Plus and based on my research online, E.l.f. Studio Makeup Mist & Set is a good one – I got curious so I searched high and low for it. Until I finally found one online and purchased it immediately.

I do have a combination type of skin, oily on the T-zone, and dry on the rest part of my face. I also have dry patches which tend to make any setting powder I use look cakey and powdery. So every time I’m done with my makeup, I finish it by using a setting spray – making my makeup look fresh, flawless and will last throughout the day.

I usually use MAC Fix Plus to set my makeup but it’s too pricey for an everyday look (and honestly, I ran out of it). So I’ve done my research to find a good drugstore dupe on the internet and found E.l.f. Cosmetics Makeup Mist & Set.

When it arrived and finally got my hands on it, I honestly got disappointed by how it looks. People say not to judge a book by its cover — so, I’m not gonna judge a product by its bottle.

It has the most uninteresting-looking plastic bottle. It’s black, square-shaped, and it easily gets scratches. The product comes with a pump and securing pump. Like most setting sprays, it contains glycerin and Allyl Methacrylate Copolymer that helps combat against humidity and sebum which cause a runny makeup. It also contains water, cucumber fruit extract, aloe leaf extract, propylene glycol, alcohol, witch hazel, and vitamins.

When I sprayed it all over my face (make sure you close your eyes and spray from a distance of 12-16 inches), it became wet – like really wet that I needed a towel to dry it off. It does take time to dry and I had to bear with it. But once it’s dry, it felt natural and very comfortable. The finish is somewhere between dewy and matte. Another thing that I love from this setting spray is that it doesn’t have a strong scent.

I also used it with eyeshadows. I sprayed the brush a few times to dampen it then used it with loose, baked, foiled eyeshadows and even the glittery ones. It’s easier to pick up the pigments and pack it on the lids. It also helps the pigmentation to appear more vibrant.

Pros

• It helps avoid powdery and cakey look
• It adds a little dewiness to makeup look rather than just being matte
• No strong or bad odor
• It’s comfortable when it dries
• Helps the makeup last longer
• Intensifies the pigmentation of foiled eyeshadows and even highlighters

Cons

• The pump is a little bit hard to control
• I felt like I was attacked with a water squirt gun when sprayed on
• I felt uncomfortable with wet face after spraying

Overall, I find this product a good dupe for MAC Fix Plus. With its affordable price of $3, it’s a good buy if you want to avoid the powdery look. Plus it’s vegan which makes it a good entry to the world of setting sprays. I just wish they’ll change its pump.
